The U.S. Embassy invites independent media of the region to participate in the grant competition
the U.S. Embassy invites independent domestic media (the media) to participate in the grant competition of the Fund for development of Ukrainian media – 2016 (hereinafter – the Fund). In the framework of the contest the Foundation provides financial support to both mass media and individual journalists in the implementation of projects that directly contribute to the development of Ukrainian media. The key thematic areas under this grant competition are: 1. Improving the quality of journalism education by: - conducting practical trainings for students of journalism on journalistic ethics and media standards, monitoring, socially responsible journalism, media business, cooperation with non-governmental organizations; - organization of internships for students in leading national and regional media; - engaging students in inter-regional student exchanges; - opening and upgrading radio and TV training centres that operate on the basis of journalism; - creating manuals for the students of journalism and journalists. 2. Improving professional standards among journalists through: - providing training support for young journalists (from 1 to 3 years of professional experience); - providing group and individual travel grants for journalists and editors to visit international conferences, seminars and internships abroad; - support projects aimed at improving journalistic investigations, analyses and journalistic skills. 3. The creation of an enabling environment for the development of Ukrainian media by: - promotion of press freedom and monitoring of violations of journalists ' rights, especially at the regional level; - conducting educational events for editors and media personnel on matters of legislation that ensures the free and transparent functioning of journalism; - implementation in the media environment of new technologies, including the use of the Internet as a source of news and information and create or update websites of existing media within wider projects. 4. Promoting cooperation between media, NGOs and public institutions by: - establishing an open dialogue between media, non-governmental organizations and governmental structures through the holding of joint seminars, working meetings and round tables; - conducting trainings for representatives of the public press. - fostering cross-regional media partnership. The maximum grant amount per project is 24 thousand dollars. The U.S. and depends on the scope of planned activities and the implementation period of the project, which can range from 1 to 12 months.
