Zhitomir celebrates the 55th anniversary of the first manned flight into space.
April 12, Zhitomir celebrates the world day of aviation and cosmonautics. Thanks to our brilliant scientist and designer Sergei Pavlovich Korolev, the mankind was able to reach interplanetary space. In the square named after S. P. Korolev gathered more than a hundred people to lay flowers to the monument to the famous scientist. The event was attended by the leadership of the region and city. "It is very nice that our countryman, who was born in Zhytomyr, was the founder of the space age. Zhytomyr residents every year on this day give my tribute to Sergei Pavlovich Korolev. Often via political trends are changing the characters, but, fortunately, the figure of Sergei Korolev has always enjoyed special respect, pride in all the residents of Zhytomyr city. Thanks to him, Zhytomyr was known in the whole world and mankind came out into space," – said Deputy Chairman of regional state administration Yaroslav Laguta.
