Sholom Aleichem (translated as peace be with you) was born on 18 February (2 March) 1859, in Pereyaslav, Poltava province (now Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky in Kiev region) in the family of a small shopkeeper. In 1887-1890, 1893-1905 lived and worked in Kiev. All the works of Sholem Aleichem is aimed at revealing the deepest strata of people's life, gives a vivid image of characters from different social strata, presents the reader a rich national character of Judaism, laughs and cries from their adventures and behaviour, dreams of purity and decency in human relations. Sholem Aleichem is the best known of all the Jewish writers who wrote for children. Critics comparing him to mark TWAIN for its resemblance to the styles of writers and the love of literature for children. He is the author of both happy and sad books about Tevye the milkman, Menachem-Mendel, boy Motl, residents Hopcat Casilli. In 1905, after the anti-Jewish pogroms by the black hundreds, the writer was forced to move from Kiev to Lviv, then took to wandering around Europe. Visited Geneva, London, Warsaw, Vilnius, Berlin and other cities. The flu has caused severe lung disease, had to be treated. In 1907-1914 years he lived in Italy and Switzerland. In 1915 he moved to new York (USA), where he died may 13, 1916. The writer was fond of Ukraine, where Ukrainians and Jews have long lived and worked side by side. In the story "Easter in the village" he lovingly portrayed the friendship of the Ukrainian and Jewish boys and Vedika Vaitla. In the lyrical novel "song of Solomon" a young Jewish man touching shimek says about Ukrainian nature, how I met your mother: "I see the sky, feel the warm breeze, hear the birds chirp, chirp, fly over our heads. This is our sky, our breeze, our birds, all ours, ours, ours!". One of the most famous books of this great writer was a series of "Tevye the milkman" (1894-1914). It was on his motives Grigory Gorin wrote the play "Tevye Tevel" for National academic drama theater named after Ivan Franko. Leading actor for many years remained the great Ukrainian actor Bohdan Stupka. Vinnichchina also honors the memory of the great writer.
