In Zhytomyr opened the exhibition to mark the 20th anniversary of the legalization of the UGCC
In the Zhytomyr oblast universal scientific library. A.. July 5, opened the exhibition "To the light of resurrection through the thorns of catacombs", which is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of legalization of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church (1989-2009). The exhibition opened on the initiative of Protopresbyter of the Zhytomyr protopresvitera of the Kyivan Archeparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) of Vitaliy Sidoruk and with the assistance of the Department of culture, Zhytomyr regional state administration. The exhibition covers the period from 1939 - 1991 and reflects three important stages of the tragic and heroic history of the UGCC of the twentieth century – the violent liquidation, underground activity, and legalization in 1989. Materials of the exhibition on specific examples to generalize and represent the position of the UGCC in conditions of persecution, reveal forms of resistance and underground activities of the clergy and laity, the methods of the struggle for recognition of their rights. The basis of the exhibition is materials from the Institute of Church History Ukrainian Catholic University, memoirs of eyewitnesses and active participants of the underground, which were collected during 1992-2009 years, the documents of the state archives, photographs from private collections. The exhibition shows the life history of the representatives of the Greek Catholic clergy, monasticism, and laity, in each of which a unique human fate. After the opening of the exhibition, all the participants saw a documentary "Those that are faithful." It tells about the history of prohibition and the legalization of the most persecuted Churches of the twentieth century. After the forced liquidation in 1946, the faithful of the UGCC for 43 years, kept their faith underground. The heroes of the film who carried out the exit of the UGCC from the catacombs, I live in Ukraine and Russia, their fate closely intertwined with the history of the Church and the era.
