From 26 to 27 October M. Yerevan (Armenia) is holding a Regional conference of the European Union on issues of local sustainable development in the countries of the Eastern Partnership, in which participated the first Deputy Chairman of regional state administration Andriy Gyzhko. The event brought together representatives of the highest level of leadership of the European Commission and the Delegation of the EU Committee of regions, CORLEAP, ministries and departments, local and regional authorities, other stakeholders. At the Conference at the highest level in Yerevan the main theme was the reduction of energy consumption in the social sector, the utilities sector, and private homes. All city councils that have signed the Covenant of Mayors, more than 200 city councils of Ukraine, Moldova, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Armenia, the Baltic countries, have taken the responsibility to reduce energy consumption. Deputy mayor of Yerevan underlined that now in the city started a comprehensive program to reduce consumption of electricity. Now they have replaced all lighting to led-lamp on the big avenues will continue to change in the secondary streets. Also they have implemented energy saving project in a local zoo, thus saving 60% energy. And in 2004 in Yerevan, though the city is home to 1.3 million inhabitants, they refused of the tram as public transport, which had functioned since 1932.
