Vinnytsia population of European bison – the biggest in Ukraine
Vinnytsia forestry specialists together with employees of the Department of environment and natural resources regional state administration has completed the registration of European bison in the forest areas of SE "Khmelnitsky forestry". Now in the Vinnytsia region there are 90 bison. This is the largest bison population that is in the state that Vinnytsya foresters managed to form, despite the fact that bison are an endangered species. Khmelnitsky foresters have prepared for feeding of bison 96 tons of hay, 20 tons of sugar beet, 16 tons of corn, 8 tons of barley, 4 tons of grain oats, 400 kg of salt. In the hunting grounds of the Vinnytsia region, the bison were introduced in 1979 (4 females and 2 males) from the state forest and hunting farm "Tsumanska" in Volyn region. The tragedy was the mass death in the past year 17 red bison that fell through the ice on a reservoir near the village of Tripe Litinsky district. There is every reason to believe that a herd of bison poachers were specifically hunted on the ice of the pond. Two bison, at least, the poachers were killed and stripped for meat. This is the price of poaching mess! After this tragic event, dozens of employees of SE "Khmelnitsky forestry" day and night watching the pieces of the broken herd, because in the icy water killed female leaders, guarding the terrified bison from stress, stray dogs, and observed the behavior of wild... And the herd over time, United, has recovered, has returned to its usual, calm way of life. Vinnitsa regional forestry and hunting farm hopes that all competent authorities are stepping up the investigation, bring it to its logical conclusion. The perpetrators should be punished accordingly, because it a tragedy not only for the Vinnytsia region, it is a tragedy for all Ukraine. Crime stories with poachers in all hunting farms in Vinnytsia and Ukraine recorded a lot. Unfortunately, greedy and unpunished poachers do not feel responsible and fear! Vinnitsa regional forestry and hunting management believes that the conservation of bison is necessary to ensure at the state level, additional funding user, in hunting area where there are bison, with the establishment of a special Fund.
