To pay tribute to those who gave their lives defending the homeland during the Second world war, near the monument to the Unknown soldier in the memorial complex “Eternal glory” brought together representatives of local and regional authorities, businesses, social organizations, institutions, veterans, students. The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the regional Council Roman Karpyuk, the Deputy mayor Taras Yakovlev, Secretary of the city Council Julia Bosenko and members of the city Council. The clergy of the UOC-KP held a service for the dead. Addressing the meeting participants, Deputy mayor Taras Yakovlev said: “ we are celebrating a memorable 73-th anniversary of the liberation of our city. This victory has cost us many lives. The heroic feat of veterans must forever imprinted in the memory of posterity. However, unfortunately, Ukraine is once again at war, fighting on the Eastern frontiers of the right to be free. In order not to repeat the bitter mistakes of the past, everyone must remember and honor its history,” he said. The participants honored the memory of fallen heroes with a minute of silence. After that, the authorities, the public and the veterans laid flowers to the memorial sign of the Unknown soldier. The meeting concluded with the national Anthem of Ukraine. In the month of February, in educational institutions and libraries of the city will be organized themed clock, a literary exhibition, exposition, covering the historical events of the liberation of Lutsk from Nazi invaders.
