Chernigov: What archaeologists have found during the reconstruction of the square in Khmelnitsky?
All-UKRAINIAN NEWSPAPER "SIVERSHCHYNA", June 20, 2017: During the reconstruction of the square. Bohdan Khmelnytsky in Chernihiv most intriguing was the question of archaeological research and the fate of archaeological finds in the area. There are a lot of stories about different findings, the fate of which the wider public and remained unknown. We asked about this specialist who understands the subject best: the Deputy chief of the left Bank of the archaeological expedition of Institute of archeology of NAS of Ukraine, candidate of historical Sciences Andrey Leonidovich Kazakova. It is a scientific subdivision, according to the requirements of the legislation, carried out archaeological supervision of the excavation in a protected archaeological area. Andrey Kazakov: All the time, every day during excavation work at each site, including the square of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, was attended by our representatives. In this square during the research there was a break only in January and February, when work was suspended. Even now, when in the Park digging irrigation transac – even though they are shallow and do not reach the ancient cultural layer, we still conduct surveillance. In Chernihiv, by the way, compared to other cities of Ukraine, the protection of cultural heritage has for many years posed seriously enough. During the work was the findings, a few times we laid the excavations. First, this group of burials 12-first half 13th centuries that were investigated closer to the street. Secondly, it is the remains of the foundations of the galleries and walls Pyatnitsky monastery, which date from the period of its existence in the 19th century, individual artifacts of Kievan Rus – battle axe 11-12 century, fragments of ancient bricks (bricks) from the construction of Pyatnitskaya Church in the early 13th century, fragments of glass bracelets and other household items, which are usually found during the excavations of the early medieval cities. Historically, the area where the Park named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky, since the post-war era was repeatedly vertically pereplevyvaet. This led to the fact that some of the archaeological sites, including burials, were damaged or even completely destroyed. The scattered bones of these graves we find in various parts of the modern square during the monitoring of excavation works. Unfortunately, they lost their importance for science, because on the individual bones cannot define their ethno-cultural affiliation, age, gender, cause of death and the like. However, we still collected to further reburial. Sometimes individual bones or fragments are under soil piles, and periodically manifest itself only when re-moving the soil. This is no fault neither the builders nor the archaeologists. Such cases are typical for protective archaeological research and sometimes can be repeated. In accordance with the methodology of field research, each finding is recorded, that is, the place where she was found is stored in field inventory, and after appropriate post-processing in the collection of archaeological materials, it seems to the Museum institution. In turn, the bones fall on the anthropological examination to the Institute of archaeology of NAS of Ukraine, where you define settings, which I already mentioned. In the historic parts of ancient cities such as Chernihiv, scattered fragments of human bones (some hundreds of centuries) to find the ground constantly and everywhere. The area where you'll square them. .Khmelnitsky, in the times of Kievan Rus was part of the chronicle Pidgoroddya that mentioned in Chronicles in 1152. The nature of the formation of medieval cities was: on the outskirts of urban neighborhoods formed the parish cemetery, then, when the city expanded, these cemeteries were under urban development. Such dynamics of development of medieval cities such as Kiev, Chernigov and other characteristic of Eastern Europe and is well known to historians. The fact that a lot of modern cities with its ancient history is built on human bones, we have to say. The only strange is a story with a picture of the human jaw, which appeared in social networks. Most likely, this episode is provocative, as the subject, we have not been able to find, none of the workers was not dug up in the hands not kept. Tell you what I saw as a man walked up to the fountain, took out something from her bag, laid it on the palm and photographed. When approached the staff to ask who he is and what he does, he quickly ran away. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case in Chernihiv construction sites. But if this man really has snippets of anthropological origin – it must bring them to us. Andrey Kazakov, photos from the Internet.Ïåðåâåäåíî ñåðâèñîì "ßíäåêñ.Ïåðåâîä÷èê": translate.yandex.ru.
