Chernigov: Vladislav Atroshenko: Our business is to adopt and implement the European experience
July 4, Chernihiv mayor Vladislav Atroshenko took part in the Forum of local democracy in Ukraine which organized the Congress of local and regional authorities of the Council of Europe. The forum was opened by the President of the Congress of local and regional authorities of the Council of Europe Gudrun Mosler-Tornstrom. Chernihiv city mayor in his welcoming speech noted: - I'm extremely pleased to see our European friends on our Chernigov land, which began Kievan Rus. I am very glad that much attention is paid to the institutional organization of democratic social relations. He also noted that the Forum is organized precisely in order to share experience of local democracy from other countries and regions. - It is extremely pleasant that the Europeans feel responsible, they are present in many events, they are open and always share their experience. Our business is only to have the will in order to as soon as possible to learn from this experience and implement it. The forum of local democracy in Ukraine will be held from 4 to 7 July at the country club "سøê³NN" p Snov'yanka (Chernihiv region). The event brought together the mayors of cities of Ukraine, deputies of local councils and young leaders. The forum focused on two themes: representative democracy and its challenges, as well as the involvement of citizens. During the event, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the issues relating to the participation of women in politics, engaging young people and public confidence in elected representatives. They will also be able to share examples of successful practices to restore dialogue between the citizens through democratic innovation and innovation participation. During the four days will be an interactive plenary session and working groups on key themes and discussions. Members of the delegations of Ukraine and other countries in the Congress, together with international and local experts will join the discussion of specific cases and examples of best practices. The forum will be held in the framework of the project of the Congress "Promoting local democracy in Ukraine" and plan of action of the Council of Europe for Ukraine for 2015-2017 Goal of this project is to improve the implementation of the principles of democracy in Ukraine by improving the essential abilities of elected representatives and in-country distribution of best practices of local democracy. During the Forum, participants will be able to participate in in-depth discussions on issues related to local government by sharing experience and best practices with other participants. The Congress of local and regional authorities is an institution of the Council of Europe, which is responsible for strengthening local and regional democracy in the 47 countries.
