In Zhytomyr region the government proposes to strengthen responsibility for bribery at elections and the distortion of their results
the Government adopted the draft law "On amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine concerning strengthening of responsibility for violation of electoral legislation", aimed at preventing the falsification of election results. The bill is aimed to the Verkhovna Rada. "The practice of vote rigging or buying votes in Ukraine should belong to the past, and for these actions we need to establish strict responsibility" - said Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groisman. The importance of the initiative, according to the Head of the Government, is undeniable, because 2019 is the year of presidential and parliamentary elections. The bill provides for the criminalization of bribery and the provision/receipt of unlawful benefit by a candidate or a voter. In particular: * bribery of a voter or candidate, offer or provide the voter or candidate undue benefit for committing or not committing actions associated with the implementation of the electoral law shall be punishable by restraint of liberty for up to 3 years or deprivation of liberty up to 6 years; * receiving improper benefits as a candidate, or a voter for committing or not committing certain actions (refusal to participate in the vote, voting for a separate candidate, the transfer of the ballot to another person, refusal of entry) is punishable by a fine of 100-300 NM, or correctional labor for a term up to 2 years, or imprisonment up to 2 years. Under the illegal benefit to the voter/candidate is providing them food, alcoholic beverages regardless of the cost, money, goods (except those which contain party symbols, provided their value is not higher than 3% of the minimum salary), services, benefits, loans, lottery tickets and the like.
