The incidence of flu in Ukraine does not exceed threshold level

January 13, under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of health of Ukraine Viktor Shafransky was held a teleconference with the regions on analysis of epidemic situation of flu. As noted by the specialists of the Ministry of health, Ukraine has registered 2.2 million cases of influenza and SARS since the beginning of epidemiological season from the flu 25 people died. Deaths in the area are not registered. In Ukraine, the aggressive influenza virus A (swine flu) is particularly dangerous for high risk groups. This virus is unlike other can provoke severe viral pneumonia, and are often the cause of lethality. At risk include children under 5 years, pregnant women, people over 65, overweight people, diabetics, patients with chronic cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease, people with other severe chronic diseases. They also include the professional risk groups: medical workers, teachers and educators, vendors, public transport drivers, all who serve the population. In Ukraine there is a means of specific therapy against influenza, but they are only effective in the first 48 hours of the disease. Therefore, in the case of appearance of dangerous symptoms (high fever, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, cough, runny nose, nasal congestion) members of risk groups should be sure to contact the medical institution, examination and, if necessary, to receive treatment within two days of the onset of flu symptoms. Pregnant women should call their doctor or family doctor by phone. For these people the flu poses a particular threat, because the condition of their body greatly reduces the chance to recover without complications and often – to survive. For the safety of your health so people should be especially careful and undergo a flu shot, preferably before the beginning of the epidemic season in September-October. According to who recommendations, the appropriate level of vaccination coverage against influenza must be at least 85% among groups of medical and professional risk, and the population not less than 30%.
