In the Khmelnitsky region from January 25 began a third round of supplementary immunization against polio

22 January held an extended teleconference meeting of the Ministry of health of Ukraine by region region on the preparations for the third round an additional vaccination against poliomyelitis and discussion of problematic issues on the results of the two previous rounds. The Deputy Minister of health Igor perehinets reported that all areas of the country have already received the vaccine, which is free and safe, and ready to start a third round of supplemental immunization. Every child from 2 months to 10 years should be vaccinated against polio – that's two drops for life, because polio can cause paralysis or fatal cases. In the first two rounds of supplementary polio immunization received any vaccinations for children aged from two months to six years. The third round will cover all children up to 10 years. In the first round, which was held from 19 October to 9 November, was able to vaccinate approximately 65% of children. In the second (30 November – 18 December), this figure rose to 75%. "To further tracheostoma immunization response to polio outbreak is to stop the transmission palavras. Only vaccination coverage 95% of children can stop circulation poliovirus and to ensure collective immunity to protect the country from a terrible, incurable disease," said Igor perehinets. Health MINISTRY officials hope that the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine will join their efforts and through schools and pre-school will conduct an information campaign to inform parents about the importance of polio vaccination. Even if a child missed the first two rounds, it's not too late to immunize against the disease. However the goal is three doses of OPV to every child for protection and an end to the circulation of the horrible virus. It is planned that the third round of vaccination will last for two weeks, but judging by the epidemic situation with incidence of flu and SARS in the country, its duration can be extended. It should be noted that epidemic processes in respect of influenza and SARS is not a contraindication to the introduction of vaccination against polio. "Depending on the development of the situation with incidence of flu and SARS, we will adjust the vaccination campaign, according to the epidemiological situation per region and, if necessary, to continue, to reached the required number of children. All fields received from the Ministry of health of Ukraine detailed information with explanations of how to carry out the third round, taking into account epidemic situation. The kids will have to check your body temperature, monitoring the child's condition will be conducted in the strengthened mode, despite the circumstances," - said the Deputy Minister. M.
