In the Zhytomyr oblast of Ministry of health, who and UNICEF are urged to continue to vaccinate children against polio

In the Ministry of health of Ukraine reported on the results of all three rounds of immunization of the child population against polio in Ukraine. Thus, during the first round managed to vaccinate for 65.7% of children in the second – 75,1%, during the third – 81,7% of the planned amount. According to Deputy health Minister Igor Peregina, the current level of vaccination in Ukraine is insufficient, because in order to overcome the outbreak of polio, the vaccination must reach at least 95% of children. So he, together with representatives of who and UNICEF noted the need to continue to vaccinate children against polio for those who have not had time to do it. "MINISTRY of health of Ukraine jointly with who and UNICEF encourage parents who have children up to 6 years who missed vaccination during the three rounds and received three additional doses of vaccine, OPV, to go and vaccinate their children. Those who have children aged from 6 years to 10 years, should receive one additional dose of OPV vaccine in the near future, if at the time of the third round, this was not done. If children were not vaccinated even once against polio, you need to first vaccinate vaccine, IPV, and 2 weeks after the OPS. Only by such action can we stop the circulation poliovirus and to ensure collective immunity to protect our country from a terrible, incurable disease," – said the Deputy Minister. As noted by the representative of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine Giovanna Barberis, since September of last year, significant progress has been made in Ukraine in the question of immunization against polio thanks to the Ministry of health, international partners, parents, teachers. But despite all the efforts, Ukraine has failed to reach world standards level of immunization coverage. "Children of Ukraine are still in danger, so couldn't stop, because every child should receive three doses of the polio vaccine. If parents missed terungwa immunization, it is not too late to make the necessary vaccinated there is a vaccine in the regions in sufficient quantities, it is safe and effective," added Giovanna Barbers.
