Khmelnytskyi: rescuers withdrew 1350 fluorescent lamps in a landfill in Khmelnytskyi

Volochisky near a garbage can found a large amount of fluorescent lamps containing mercury vapor. Immediately to a call place there arrived experts of chemical and radiological laboratories, with the help of special equipment conducted measurements of mercury vapor concentration in the air. According to the results of research they found that the indicators do not exceed the maximum permissible concentration, so the threat to people and the environment. Rescuers withdrew about 1350 lamps and pass them to the Department of ecology for disposal. The state emergency service of Ukraine reminds that all fluorescent lamps contain mercury (in doses of from 40 to 70 mg), which is a toxic substance, and belong to the I class of danger for environment. This dose may be harmful to health if the lamp breaks. If constantly exposed to the harmful effects of mercury vapor, it will accumulate in the human body, compromise health.
