The agreement on financing the project of modernization of water supply system of Chernivtsi was signed in Kiev

Agreement on the financing and implementation of the project on modernization of water supply system of Chernivtsi was signed on 13 April in Kiev mayor Alex Kaspruk with a representative of the management Committee KfW development Bank by Rolland Slalom. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Head of the EU delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski and Deputy head of mission of the Embassy of Germany in Ukraine by Wolfgang Benzyle. At the signing ceremony, stated that the European Union and Germany will provide joint support in the modernization of the drinking water system of Chernivtsi. The German Federal government on the implementation of this project through the development Bank KfW provides long-term soft loan, which will be used to Finance investments for the restoration of drinking water supply system in Chernivtsi. Loan agreement in the amount of 17 million euros for the first three stages of the project was signed between KfW and the Government of Ukraine in February 2015 and entered into force on 3 March 2016. Total funding for the three stages of the project is EUR 61,5 million. The project will enable the community of Chernivtsi manage their regional water resources and operate water supply system more efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. In addition, it needs to improve the living conditions of the residents of the city by ensuring round-the-clock access to drinking water of the highest quality. The investment activities of the project include the rehabilitation of pumping stations and underground water intakes with the aim of increasing the efficiency of energy use. At the same time replacing worn-out distribution networks, zoning pressure should reduce physical water losses. The EU will support the project through its Investment Fund neighbourhood (FS) under “the Program for modernization and reconstruction of communal infrastructure" in Ukraine. It will allow providing to the municipal enterprise and the society needs consultancy services, implementation of education programs. FS grant funds in the amount of 3 million euros will be implemented through KfW. Mayor Alex Kaspruk thanked all the partners of the project: representatives of the Governments of Germany and Ukraine, the development Bank KfW, the German Embassy and the EU delegation in Ukraine for their constructive cooperation and substantial assistance to the community of Chernivtsi in solving the problem of water supply of the city. "The biggest investment in modernization of infrastructure of Chernivtsi, which will significantly change the water supply system of the city, to make it modern and energy efficient. Support of the project involves the transparency of all procedures and clear timescales. The city authorities are ready to work on the implementation of all activities of the project", – said Alexei Kaspruk. This was reported in the Chernivtsi city Council
