The Commission on urban toponymy,the protection and preservation of historical and cultural environment of Chernihiv considered the proposals of Chernigov

In Chernihiv city Council on April 18, Deputy mayor Olga Hanc held a regular meeting of the Commission on urban toponymy, the protection and preservation of historical and cultural environment of Chernigov. The Commission members reviewed the entire agenda, which included the issues of renaming of streets and lanes, the names of the parks in the city, establishing memorial plaques in memory of prominent citizens of Chernihiv on the proposals of legal and physical persons. To Chernihiv city Council received 23 proposals, including, in the form of petitions from citizens and representatives of citizens ' associations, in which they complain about the renaming of streets and alleys of the city of Chernihiv. The Deputy mayor, the Chairman of the Commission on urban toponymy, the protection and preservation of historical and cultural environment of Chernigov Olga Hanc noted that appropriate changes have been made in pursuance of the Law of Ukraine "About the condemnation of the Communist and national socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the prohibition of propaganda of their symbolism". She assured the citizens that the Commission will find solutions to the problems that arise. You need to develop an effective mechanism for renaming, and it needs to be legally justified. During the meeting the Commission members decided that the proposals will be taken into account in the future, and all citizens who appealed to the city Council, will be informed in writing. However, most deals require more scrutiny.
