This was reported by Deputy Chairman of regional state administration Yuriy Eureka during the opening of the all-Ukrainian scientific-practical conference with international participation "Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in the history and modern processes of development of Ukrainian society", which continues in Ternopil national pedagogical University. V. Hnatiuk. "This year marks 70 years since the Lviv pseudosobor initiated by the Communist regime, which tried to liquidate the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church - said Yuri Eureka. – Only on the territory of Ternopil oblast was arrested and deported hundreds of priests and believers. Many of them never saw his native land... And neither torture nor exile could not break their faith and will. Those who survived, continued his sacrificial service even in inhuman conditions of Gulag camps, in places of forced settlement, and, returning to the fold, – among the thirsty pastoral words of local people. Opening such a monument, we honor those who worthily carried his cross, not betraying God and Ukraine. And most importantly, to remind our contemporaries of the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people for the right to live in dignity on their land”.
