Vinnytsia journalists initiate protection of fellow freelancers
At the initiative of the Vinnytsia mass media is preparing a government decree on the procedure of payment of lump-sum assistance in case of death or injury of a journalist while performing his professional duties. Normative document, which develops the state Committee, will help to disseminate the provisions of the law "On state support of media and social protection of journalists" freelancers and to bring its action into practice. The emergence of this document was contributed by the public organization "Spinoza". Chairman of the NGO "Fund for journalists with disabilities and disorders of musculoskeletal system "Spinoza" Nataliya jurbenko notes that we are talking about the document that clearly defines the procedure of payment of the disposable monetary assistance in the event of death or injury (contusion, trauma or mutilation) of the journalist during the execution of professional duties. It is very important that it will also apply to freelancers, or as defined formally, is for journalists who do not work on the basis of an employment agreement (contract) and are not insured persons on insurance against accidents at the workplace. In the case of entry into force of the Cabinet there is an opportunity for real receiving state aid freelancers. The Ministry of social policy in January of this year, made comments to the draft decree, in particular, regarding the holding of such payments through the Ministry and accountable structures for social protection of the population. Now the draft document is being finalized, the state Committee, to conform to the Regulations of the Cabinet. Now there is a need to introduce mandatory social guarantees and assistance to journalists not only from the state but also from employers. Especially now, when actually began the process of privatization of public media. To form a common ground to bring together colleagues around this idea, "Spinoza" plans to hold a series of thematic "round tables" and meetings "without ties" with journalists, chief editors and owners of local media NGOs and media people.
