The appeal of the mayor of Ternopol Sergey Nadal on the occasion of honoring the victims of world war II

Dear citizens, the Ukrainians! 8 may the world remember the victims of the Second world war. For Ukraine, — is both victorious and tragic page of our history. For Ukrainians the Second world war began earlier than for the rest of the world. It happened in March 1939, when Hungarian troops entered the territory of Carpatho-Ukraine. Against the will of the then geopolitical players, the Ukrainians fought for their Independence. Ukraine lost 10 million people in this war. 700 cities, including Kiev, were almost completely destroyed. More than 500 thousand Ukrainians in the West were persecuted for what they wanted an Independent state. 230 thousand Crimean Tatars, Armenians, Greeks were deported. Ukrainians fought in all armies of the world, including the UPA, the Soviet army, armies of the allies. Ukraine has made almost the biggest contribution to the victory over Nazism. Ukraine also showed their desire to be Independent and sovereign. And the task of Ukrainians lies in the fact that to get a conviction of the Communist aggressor who acted the same methods as the Nazis. Without such conviction, as shown by the present war will be repeated. Historical events will be used to foment ethnic hatred. We have to achieve recognition of the UPA at the international level, as a force that fought with two of the most misanthropic regimes. It is the example of the UPA was inspired by the current heroes of Ukraine against the Russian aggressor. in Ukraine has become a good tradition of common prayer for the souls of the dead that happens with the support of the majority of Ukrainian Christian denominations. I urge everyone to join this prayer. It will be the best by honoring those who gave their lives for the sake of their families, their homeland, their country. Eternal monument’memory and glory to the Heroes of Ukraine past and present! The mayor of Ternopol Sergey Nadal This was reported in the Ternopil city Council
