EBRD representatives confirmed their readiness to provide Ukraine a loan for modernization of the electric vehicle

the preparation of the feasibility study of the project of modernization of electric transportation in Chernivtsi discussed at the meeting of the mayor Alexei Kaspruk with a leading Advisor to the EBRD Igor Knezevik and technical consultant in transport logistics Carolson Decison. It was about the features of transport logistics in Chernivtsi, the concept of development of electric transport, streamlining of the scheme of movement of public transport that would meet the needs of the residents and would be cost-effective, the possibility of introducing a single electronic ticket, the experience of modernization of electric transport and operation of municipal transportation companies in different cities of Europe. EBRD representatives got acquainted with the work of Chernivtsi trolleybus Department, the main means of this enterprise, the results of its financial activities and the trolleybus route network. It was agreed the basic requirements for a feasibility study of the project and the timing of its development. Senior Advisor, EBRD Igor Knyazev confirmed the Bank's commitment together with the city Council to submit the proposal to the donor of the Fund Eastern European partnership for energy efficiency and environment E5P granting Chernivtsi irretrievable technical assistance for the implementation of the project of modernization of electric transport. On the same assistance in a similar project claim the city of Kremenchug. This proposal will be considered by the EBRD donor E5P Fund in late June – early July. In General, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is implementing in Ukraine the investment project for the development of urban electric transport, which involves the participation of several cities of Ukraine, particularly Odessa, Chernivtsi, Lviv, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernihiv. The goal of the project is to provide priority development of electric transport in these cities, its constant operation, to improve the system of management of urban transport. The project involves the provision of the public transport companies of these cities credit funds for modernization of the electric vehicle under municipal guarantee. Chernivtsi plan to receive ˆ 7 million loan for 13 years with a period of 3 years. These funds will purchase new trolleybuses and carried out work on the modernization of the trolleybus network.
