The national Bank also noted that in may 2016 consumer inflation in annual terms fell to 7.5%, in line with expectations of the NBU. “Reducing inflationary pressure had a fundamental character, which confirms the slowdown in core inflation. This contributed to the balanced monetary policy and the strengthening of the hryvnia exchange rate due to favorable con's of the situation on world commodity markets. Also the disinflationary trend supported by the increase in the supply of food products», – said in a statement. The national Bank of Ukraine adopted a decision to reduce the discount rate from 22% to 19% per annum from 22 April and 27 may to 18%. In September 2015, the national Bank decided to reduce the discount rate from 27% to 22%. In March last year, the NBU increased the discount rate and the refinancing rate to 30%, and at the end of August 2015 reduced to 27%. The discount rate is one of the tools through which the national Bank sets for commercial banks benchmark for the cost of attracted and placed funds. In fact, it determines the value of money.
