Chernihiv city Council invites the public to discuss the further fate of the dismantled bas
18 July in Chernihiv two stelae complex at the Boldina heights mountain (the Memorial complex of glory of soldiers, partisans and underground fighters and the tomb of the unknown soldier, located at Tolstogo str.) in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "About the condemnation of the Communist and national socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the prohibition of propaganda of their symbols" dismantled – as those that glorify the history of the October revolution and the consequent occupation of the Ukraine by the Soviet regime. After the dismantling of the stele were transported for safekeeping in KP "special works public utilities" of the city Council. Guardian is defined by the decision of the Executive Committee of the Chernihiv city Council from 16.06.2016, No. 243 regarding the dismantling of monuments, steles and plaques. The dismantling of reliefs took place without incident – thanks to a joint compromise adopted in the discussion of this issue by all stakeholders. As previously reported, such a discussion took place on 4 July at the next meeting of the Commission on urban toponymy, protection and preservation of historical-cultural environment of Chernigov. The Commission has also proposed periods of history of Ukraine, which needed to be immortalized on the site of the dismantled images. Namely, the periods of time of the Cossacks and the national liberation struggle for the independence of Ukraine. However, given the resonance of the issue and its relevance to many of Chernigov, the town Council invites the public to submit their suggestions as to what should be the fate of the dismantled bas-reliefs and what should appear in their place. Suggestions can be sent to the email address of the press service of the Chernihiv city Council pressa@chernigiv-rada.gov.ua. All suggestions will be considered and discussed at the meeting of the Public Council under the Chernihiv city mayor.
