Vinnicchina: in the next three years "phone fraud will spend behind bars
Vinnitsa city court Sentence of a 26-year-old vinnichanka sentenced to three years in prison for committing a series of daring "telephone fraud”. So, in four episodes of criminal activity committed in the period from June to September 2015, the victim suffered damage totaling more than 180 thousand UAH. In each case, the convict acted in a similar way: called on landline phone residents of Vinnitsa and, posing as fictional they’Yam, demanded to transfer a certain amount of money for the release of a close relative (son or grandson) of the police. It is worth emphasizing that in three of the four occasions the calls occurred in the daytime, which, however, did not prevent the convict to deceive the victims who had agreed to his demands and, having collected the required amount, put them in a certain place personally to the swindler or other persons who acted at his direction. Just this year, law enforcement recorded 20 criminal proceedings for the same facts. The disclosure of these crimes is complicated by the fact that often the perpetrator is in one locality, and the victim – in another, sometimes in different parts of the country. For example, 11.08.2016 Kryzhopolsky district court sentenced for committing the same crimes, the men who called the victim, from Lychakiv penal colony where he was serving a sentence for other crimes. There are cases when calls are made from the occupied territories. Thus, the problem of committing criminal offences with the use of telecommunications networks is just one of those that is easier to prevent than to solve. Given the above, call upon all citizens and residents of the area to be extremely cautious while carrying out any operations with monetary funds, especially in the case of a transfer of cash or property to strangers.
