If in December the city Council will approve the agreement with the EBRD,Chernivtsi will receive 50 new modern trolleybuses

Fifty new low-floor trolley buses can recharge in Chernivtsi trolleybus Park thanks to the cooperation of Chernivtsi with the European Bank for reconstruction and development. This was announced by mayor Alex Kaspruk on 16 November signed an agreement with EBRD for the modernization of heat supply system of Chernivtsi. The Bank is ready to provide 8 million Euro loan for upgrading the fleet of electric vehicles in Chernivtsi. If the agreement is approved and signed in December of this year, Chernivtsi will have the opportunity on this project to attract up to one million euros grant funds. This was announced by senior banker of the EBRD in Ukraine Denys hajovyy. According to him, the Bank's specialists jointly with the Chernivtsi trolleybus management in early December ready to present the community of the city, deputies of city Council a feasibility study of this project. "Of course, it does not fully solve the problem of electric transport in the city – says mayor Alex Kaspruk. But it will significantly increase the capacity of trolleybus enterprises would eliminate bus routes that overlap on the trolley, to provide a clear and convenient range of motion of the trolley, to make the electric vehicle more comfortable and able to meet the needs of people with disabilities. In the end, the replenishment of Park of electric transport aims to reduce car traffic in Chernivtsi, to create conditions for the liberation of the historic city from the burden of private transport and thereby have a positive impact on the environment". As noted by the Director of the Chernivtsi trolleybus management ivanichek John, the power of the trolleybus network in Chernivtsi designed for 120-130 trolleybuses, but now daily routes working only 50 trolleybuses. If 20 years ago the trolleybus Park of Chernivtsi had more than 170 cars, now there are more than 70, of which 53 machine operated for over 30 years. Senior banker of the EBRD in Ukraine Denys hajovyy said that now with the assistance of the EBRD is being implemented the program of development of electric transport in Ukraine. The total amount of credit funds under this program is EUR 100 million and it involves several Ukrainian cities. The most advanced in the implementation of this project in Odessa, where the new trolleys will come on line early next year, is active in project work as well cities like Kremenchug, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zhytomyr. Only on activity of deputies of the city Council is, once the new trolleybuses will be in services in Chernivtsi, since all other approvals at the level of the EBRD, donors of this project and ministries of the Ukrainian government have already been obtained.
