In the Rivne region cancelled the acquittal in respect of the policeman,who demanded from the citizen 3500 $ USA
Thanks to the principled and consistent position of the Prosecutor's office of Rivne region court of appeal abolished the illegal decision of the local court, which acquitted former police officer, and adopted a new decision, the latest sentencing for extortion with the threat of violence against the victim (signs of a criminal offense under part 1 of article 189 of the criminal code of Ukraine). Pre-trial investigation, which was conducted by investigators of Prosecutor's office of Rivne region, found that the assistant operations duty officer, the duty of one of the city's police Department in March 2015, demanded from the citizen of 3500 dollars, and in case of failure to do so threatened to apply to the latter physical violence. While receiving funds in the amount of 12 thousand UAH and 500 USD the militiaman has been detained by prosecutors of Rivne region in cooperation with the staff of the Department of internal security of Ministry of internal Affairs of Ukraine in Rivne region. However, Ostrog district court 07.07.2016 acquitted in respect of the said person. Not agreeing with this decision, the Prosecutor's office of Rivne region challenged it on appeal. In the result the court of Appeal of Rivne region 05.12.2016 upheld the complaint of the Prosecutor's office, quashed the illegal acquittal and ordered a new one, recognizing the person guilty of a crime and sentenced 2 years of imprisonment.
