Thanks to the cooperation with international partners to Chernivtsi opened a new water treatment facility

December 19, 2013. on the territory of Chernivtsi region (Ukraine), Suceava County (Romania) and Drakesboro district (Republic of Moldova) started cross-border cooperation project "Improvement of ecological situation in the basins of the rivers Prut and Dniester by improving sewage treatment systems in Chernivtsi and Drak". "This project began in 2013 – said Chernivtsi mayor Alex Kaspruk. – Not the first time deputies have supported it. The funds were allocated, a tender was held. the work has been completed. The share of co-financing was approximately 60 to 40. That is 40 – it's city budget, 60 – from EU funds. This is a substantial savings for us. I am convinced that this is not the first and not the last project we will implement". The project is being implemented under the Joint operational programme "Romania – Ukraine – Republic of Moldova 2007-2013" (the total cost of the project is 1.159.190 Euro and share of EU grant – 1.043.040 euros). The main objective of the project is to improve the ecological situation in the transboundary basins of the rivers Prut and Dniester by improving the management and implementation of innovative approaches to wastewater treatment in Chernivtsi and Drok. The project was implemented three years from December 2013 to December 2016. In the framework of the events were held the whole complex of works including the reconstruction of treatment facilities in Chernivtsi (construction of 2 new horizontal sand traps), construction of new facilities in Drochia (Moldova) technology intensive biological purification to reduce water pollution untreated and insufficiently treated waste waters; stimulation of cross-border cooperation for the exchange of experiences; the formation of consciousness and motivation among local residents about the need to preserve the environment and water management. As a result of implementation of the international project is expected to improve sanitary and epidemiological situation of water bodies, the population's access to services wastewater treatment. One of the achievements of the project is also the introduction of innovative wastewater technologies. This was reported in the Chernivtsi city Council
