13 January 2017 in the framework of the official visit to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, the Chairman of the Saee Serhiy Savchuk became the honorary guest of the high-level meeting, organised by the International renewable energy Agency (IRENA) with the aim of discussing the issue of disclosure of potential of renewable energy in the countries of South-Eastern Europe. In the beginning of the event Director General of IRENA, Mr. Adnan Amin presented the attendees prepared a report "Competitive production of energy from renewable sources: the capacity of countries of South-Eastern Europe", in which special attention is paid to Ukraine. In particular, according to experts, IRENA, the energy sector of Ukraine is the largest by volume compared with other countries in the region. There are also significant capacity of renewable energy facilities, such as solar and wind energy, are estimated at 1.3 GW. According to the study, Ukraine has the highest among the countries of the region, the potential of using wind energy. The report also demonstrated the features of stimulating the development of renewable energy in Ukraine: an improved system of "green" tariffs, introduced a prize for the use of domestic equipment cancelled on-demand "local" part. "Despite significant resource potential, renewable energy in Ukraine is seen as a way to increase energy security and economic recovery of the country," the report says IRENA. "Despite the difficult economic situation and military events in the East, Ukraine would meet all the challenges that it faces in the first place, energy. Thanks to legislative action over the past two years we have given new impetus to the development of energy production from renewable sources. Confirmation of this is the establishment for 11 months last year, 71 MW of new capacities of power generation facilities from renewable sources. At the same time, 52 MW – capacity solar power plants", - said S. Savchuk. As explained by the Head of the Agency, is the result of a balanced state policy in the field of renewable energy. "We are improving the legislative framework, create incentives to attract investors into the Ukrainian market. Our priority is to provide investors with assurances of a return on their investment", explained in Sec.Savchuk and added that the key to generating competitive production "green" electricity has been the Law of Ukraine on 04.06.2015 No. 514-VIII. Speaking about its main provisions, S. Savchuk showed examples of successful projects in the field of renewable energy in different regions of the country. "For the production of energy from all renewable sources Ukraine has significant resources, the necessary legal framework and most importantly – political will. We are open to dialogue and ready to discuss possible ways of cooperation, as well as to provide Advisory assistance to all interested investors," - urged those present to cooperate Sergey Savchuk. Overall, the participants noted that legislators play a key role in the development of renewable energy. Their work, of laws adopted depend on the conditions in which will work entrepreneurs and investors. Also, during the meeting, the participants reviewed progress in the implementation of the National action plans for renewable energy in South-Eastern Europe and the obstacles along the way, discussed ways to overcome obstacles and attract the help of IRENA in this matter.
