Chernivtsi: peculiarities of pension provision for miners

Under article 14 of the law of Ukraine “On pensions” employees engaged full time, in particular at underground and open mining, are entitled to pension regardless of age if they were occupied in these works not less than 25 years, and workers of leading professions in these works, in particular, working stope, drifters, miners at impact hammers, machinists mining machinery, provided if they were occupied in these works not less than 20 years. In the presence of experience in underground work less than 10 years in males and less than 7 years and 6 months for women for each full year of these works, the retirement age is reduced by 1 year. Article 8 of the law of Ukraine “On raising the prestige of miners ' work” provided, that the minimum pension to the miners who worked underground for at least 15 years for men and 7.5 years for women according to the List No. 1 of productions, works, professions, positions and indicators approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, shall be established independently of the work in 80 per cent of the average wage of the miner, but not less than the subsistence minimum established for persons incapacitated. For calculating the amount of old-age pension for each full year of work experience in underground work by the insurance period is additionally counted in one year. The Law of Ukraine “On raising the prestige of miners ' work” applies to workers who extract coal, iron ore, ores of nonferrous and rare metals, manganese, uranium ores, employees of mine construction enterprises, engaged in underground work a full day, and employees of state paramilitary rescue services (formations) in coal mining – List No. 1 of productions, works, professions, positions and indicators on underground works, on works with especially harmful and especially heavy working conditions, employment in which a full day gives the right to a retirement pension on favorable terms, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. According to the introduction from 1 January 2017 amendments, to the law of Ukraine “On raising prestige of miners ' work” shall also apply to employees that produce magnesium (salts potassium-magnesium and magnesium salts) and ozokerite ore.
