Chernigov: a Competition for high school students with the opportunity to go in the summer in Canada

Canadian-Ukrainian public organization O. W. L Open World Learning announces competition for high school students, College students, and students of 1-3 courses of higher educational institutions of Ukraine. As you know, Ukrainians were one of the first settlers, who built a yet very young and little-known Canada. The contribution of our compatriots in the development of culture and the economy of this country cannot be overestimated. That is why, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the first Ukrainian settlements in Canada and the 150th anniversary of the independence of Canada, the canadian public organization O. W. L Open World Learning announces a competition for high school students, College students, and students of 1-3 courses of higher educational institutions of Ukraine and invites everyone to join in. Finalists from Ukraine will get the opportunity to go to Canada in the summer of 2017, with the aim of learning English, getting acquainted with canadian society and the Ukrainian Diaspora in Canada. Finalists from Canada will have the opportunity to participate in the summer program in Toronto or Vancouver with the purpose of acquaintance of the Ukrainian participants in the activities of Ukrainian organizations and conducting training sessions on leadership. To participate in the competition: high school Students (9-12 grade); Students of 1-3 courses of higher educational institutions and colleges. The conditions of competition I. To participate in the contest, contestant must: * Select a prominent historical or modern figure of the Ukrainian canadian (for example, Roberta Lynn Bondar, the first canadian of Ukrainian origin, which has been in space; Bohdan Havrylyshyn, a canadian-Ukrainian philanthropist and the like). * Conduct thorough research on the chosen person. * On the basis of the collected material to shoot a small home video (max 3 minutes). In this part, the contestant must come up with a story. Welcome any creative idea – it might even be an interview or documentary, if possible. * At the beginning or at the end of the video by the bidder in any form should be stated that this video clip is the subject of the contest from the O. W. L. Open World Learning (e.g., "I participate in the competition of the canadian-Ukrainian organizations O. W. L. Open World Learning on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the first Ukrainian settlement in Canada. I was very impressed with the story (the name of the selected figures), so..."). II. The competitor must: * Upload captured video on YouTube; * Fill in the application form, where to provide a link to the video; (questionnaire -https://www.dropbox.com/s/ougaw3l4m23r6v4/2%D0%90%D0%9D%D0%9A%D0%95%D0%A2%D0%90.docx?dl=0) * Write a motivation letter in Russian or English (maximum one page of printed text), where to describe why a figure attracted the attention of the participant and why the participant wants to participate in the program and to come to training; * Send the documents to office@owl-study.com with subject "Contest" before March 1, 2017; * All files must contain the name of the contestant and the title of the document (for example, "Prokopchenko"). * Write a short essay or article in print media or online and send a copy of the publication or a reference to it. III. The participant consents to the placement of the video in social networks and on the website of the O. W. L World Open Learning. IV. In determining the finalists, in addition to the context of the video and matching it to the requirements will be also taken into account the views and preferences of video to social networks and YouTube channel. V. the results of the competition will be announced on 15 March 2017. VI. Finalists will be announced publicly on the website and in social networks O. W. L Open World Learning, and e-mail. In determining the winners preference will be given to the children of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, the dead members of ATU, veterans and orphans. VII. The finalists will get the opportunity to go to Canada in the summer of 2017, with the aim of learning English, getting acquainted with canadian society and the Ukrainian Diaspora in Canada.
