Chernivtsi: the Participants of public hearings supported the renaming of the street

Public hearing regarding the renaming of the street Maxim Gorky street named after Dmitry Hnatiuk took place on 14 March at the town Hall. Previously a petition, the author of which was Taras Babuh, supported 265 Chernivtsi. In the discussion of the renaming was attended by 49 residents. During the public hearing, each participant had the opportunity to Express their opinion on the issue of renaming. In particular, Deputy Chairman of the "Association of Bukovina in Kiev" Andrew Skibinski suggested to rename the street in the name of Bukovina and spoke about personal acquaintance with famous singer. Also in support of the renaming spoke singers Ivan Derdo, Vladimir Loburak, journalist Anatoly Isaac, Deputy Chairman of the regional society "Prosvita" Maria Pelekh, a scientist, a Professor Miroslav Saczuk and others. Also present were heard and the arguments of the residents of the street who were against the renaming. In particular, some participants felt that the renaming of the street not on time, and connected with it financial expenses. Residents also commented critically about the state of the street M. Gorky, sidewalks and roadway. And if you rename requested to bring it into proper condition. In the end, "for" the name change voted by 47 participants, against –two. The decision of the public hearings will be taken into account during consideration by the toponymic Commission and submitted for consideration of session of the Chernivtsi city Council.
