In Ternopil honored the 70th anniversary of the tragic events of "operation Vistula"

the Meeting-Requiem on the occasion of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the forced mass deportation of Ukrainians from ethnic Ukrainian lands of Lemkivschyna Nadsyannya, Kholmshchyna and Podlasie took place on 28 April in Ternopil, near the monument to victims of deportation. The clergy sent to the memorial service for the repose of the souls of the victims of the deportations during the "operation Vistula". The memorable event was attended by the Chairman of the Ternopil regional state administration Stepan Barna. "The events that occurred in 1947 was the peak of violence against the Ukrainian people. Operation "Vistula" — a continuation of what happened with the Ukrainians since 9 September 1944, when it was signed the so-called " agreement on the exchange of populations and the mass deportation of nearly 482 thousand Ukrainians. And if so many people were resettled from 1944 to 1946, only one month with the Ukrainian ethnic lands forcibly deported nearly 160 thousand of our countrymen. And this was accompanied by repression and death. This action has clear signs of a war crime, whose aim was the final destruction of the Ukrainian Church, the Ukrainian faith, Ukrainian traditions and the Ukrainian spirit. And now we have to rethink the whole burden of responsibility placed on the minds of many those people who are doing the history of Poland and building the future of the Ukrainian state", — said the head region. Stepan Barna noted in SNH difficult conditions for Ukraine important for us to remember that our society must unite not only by the desire to build a future, but the memory of the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians who lost their home and native land. "If we do not remember their past, no future. Eternal memory to every Ukrainian, who loved their land and gave it life," said Stepan Barna. This was reported in the Ternopil regional state administration
