George, Volyn painters often turned to the topic of the "miracle of the dragon", which embodied the idea of courage and heroism for the sake of the Holy faith, was a symbol of victory of good over evil and of Christianity over paganism. Such a tradition was connected with the folk belief about the saints who overcome the forces of evil, and heroic events of the Cossack liberation wars of the XVI – XVII centuries, Icons of St. George combined stylistic features, in which the legend of the Zeebonet interpreted with a distinctive folk sound.
