More than 40 students took part in the Zhytomyr regional youth debate tournament
Emotional, interesting, dynamic, informative and useful – it can be described as the first of the Zhytomyr regional youth debate tournament, which took place last week. The tournament was held for Youth public organization "Modern Format" in the framework of the project "Regional voices – building bridges to democracy". "In preparation for the tournament, teachers of educational institutions of the city and region, as well as public figures, were trained in the methodology of parliamentary debate ("policydebates"), and they were faced with the task of preparing their teams for participation in the tournament", - says Zhanna Solovyeva, Chairman of NGO "Modern Format". Participants of the debate tournament were students of colleges, lyceums and higher educational institutions of Zhytomyr. Just participating in the debate took 20 teams of 2 players each. The tournament was held in the parliamentary debate format, which envisages participation in the debate of two sides, one of which - the representatives of the government, the second - the representatives of the opposition. Each side consisted of two teams: 1st and 2nd government, as well as 1-a and 2-a opposition. The debate participants learned about who of them is the government and who the opposition directly at the event during the draw. Also in the draw, it was determined which team which team you play. In preparation for the debate tournament, all participants received a preliminary list of 10 topics for training, but the topics of the rounds were announced to the participants during the tournament. All these aspects added to the tournament some of the unpredictability and adrenaline. "The parliamentary debate format suggests that the debate taking place simultaneously in several classrooms, and the final of the tournament will also see viewers and fans. Technically and organizationally managed to hold the tournament at a high level thanks to the support of a permanent partner and friend of our organization – the Zhytomyr state technological University, which hosted the debate tournament", - said Zhanna Solovyova. During the event, participants had the opportunity to listen to a motivational lecture on trends and trends in the educational process from the teacher of the Kyiv Mohyla business school – Artem Serdyuk. 1st place in the debate tournament was shared by the team "Fortuna" Zhytomyr cooperative College of business and law and the "Enterprise N&B" Zhytomyr national agroecological University. Second place went to the team of "Marshals" of the Zhytomyr national agroecological University (Oleg Brody and Catherine Copich). Third place went to the team of "Asterix and Obelix" Zhytomyr automobile and highway College of National transport University (Ilona, Patlatyuk and Daria opanasyuk). The winners received diplomas and all the participants received certificates for active participation in the event. All tournament participants received prizes from partners of the tournament “60 MINUTES QUESTROOM”.
