110 years ago I was born in Zhitomir, a distinguished poet and archeologist Oleg Olzhych

July 8, in Ukraine celebrate the 110 anniversary from the birthday of outstanding Ukrainian poet, politician, archeologist Oleg Olzhych. Oleh Olzhych (real name Oleg Kandyba) was born in Zhitomir on July 8 (July 21 new style), 1907. The father of the famous poet and writer Alexander Kandyba (alias Alexander Oles), mother – Faith-the official website of Svadkovski, high-school teacher. University studies were done at Charles University in Prague, doctor of philosophy. He was an assistant of the Ukrainian Free University in Prague. In 1938 he lectured (Slavic archeology) from Harvard University and was the initiator of the organization of Ukrainian scientific Institute in the United States. Knew 9 European languages. In 1930-40-ies was an active participant in the Ukrainian nationalist movement, one of the leaders of the OUN. May 25, 1944, he was saaristola Gestapo. Olzhych was put in "the barracks" Tsellenbau – a separate block for the most important prisoners on the territory of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Died during the next interrogation in the night from 9 to 10 June 1944. This was reported in the Zhytomyr regional state administration
