Chernivtsi will join to participate in the three-year anti-corruption initiative of the European Union

Chernivtsi mayor Alex Kaspruk held a meeting on European approaches to anti-corruption actions, in which took part the head of anti-corruption initiatives of the European Union in Ukraine (EUACI) Eka Tkeshelashvili and the representative of the headquarters of the European Union, expert on justice and home Affairs Kate Lenzing. The head of anti-corruption initiatives of the EU in Ukraine Catteshall noticed that this is the most ambitious initiative to combat corruption. The new initiative is for three years, the contribution of the European Commission and its functioning is 14.5 million euros, and 1.34 million euros – Ministry of foreign Affairs of Denmark. European experts stressed that the purpose of anti-corruption initiatives of the EU is to strengthen the capacity of the newly created Ukrainian anti-corruption institutions, and strengthening of external control over the process of reform of the Verkhovna Rada, civil society and the media. The initiative consists of three elements, the first of which provides for tougher anti-corruption agencies in the investigation, the implementation of criminal persecution, in punishment of cases of corruption. This component will be available to various types of support, as an expert, and it-support. The second component provides for the establishment of the Advisory Board of international experts, which will strengthen the capacity of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on prevention and counteraction of corruption, to scrutinize the legislation in the sphere of fight against corruption and to monitor the implementation of the reform. The third element will facilitate the involvement of civil society and media in anti-corruption activities, especially in the regions by providing grants. The mayor and European officials have agreed to begin systematic cooperation between anti-corruption initiative of the EU and our city. "Our city already has a considerable experience of fruitful and constructive work with the European funds, government and financial institutions, so we are willing to join this initiative, will help to create the envisioned program of the special unit, which can later be integrated into the structure of the city Council." – said Alexey Kaspruk.
