Chernivtsi students worthily represented their city at the international competition in legal debates on human rights on behalf of Nelson Mandela

the Team of the Chernivtsi national University participated in the 9th international competitions in legal debates on human rights name of Nelson Mandela (9th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition), held on 17 – 21 July at the UN headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. This year the competition involved 36 teams from 24 countries. CNU im. Yuriy Fedkovych was represented by the students of the fourth and second courses of the law faculty Elena Shcherbakova and novel Tokarik. This team presented Chernivtsi result is 75.9 points out of 100. She played two games for the plaintiff and defendant. Opponents of Chernivtsi were teams from Oxford, Malawi, Zambia and Kenya (Oxford University, UK , Chancellors College, University of Malawi, University of Zambia, Strathmore University, Kenya). Participants had to demonstrate fluency in international law, detailed knowledge of the plot of the case, the skills of argument and counterargument, the ability to react quickly to the questions of the judges, to give full and informed answers. Elena Shcherbakova and novel Tokarik successfully coped with these tasks and received high marks from the judges, as well as tips and recommendations to further improve the skills of debating. They got important experience, convinced in their own abilities, have received helpful advice from the judges. In today's globalized world these professional meetings, communication, exchange of experience with representatives of universities in different countries is extremely important for students, because it gives the opportunity to discuss problems common to all States, to feel unity with the world. The best 5 teams from each region of the world are invited to Geneva to participate in the final rounds of the competition.
