In Ternopil honor the anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko
the Solemn event dedicated to 202 th anniversary of the birth of one of the most prominent figures in Ukrainian literature and art of Taras Shevchenko took place on 9 March in the regional center. The townspeople and city visitors, representatives of local authorities, political parties and the clergy honored the memory of the glorious son of Ukraine in the "Square poet". In the literary and artistic festival "Shevchenko Duma" was attended by creative collectives of Palace of culture "Berezil". L. Kurbas. Artists opened the event, performing Ukrainian folk songs of literary origin - "Roars and moans wide Dnepr". The priests served a memorial memorial service for the repose of the soul of the Great poet. Young people recited majestically sharp word of Taras, which became in our time as never before the prophetic and relevant. "He was a warrior of the word, a warrior of the Ukrainian idea, which he brought and popularized, — said the Chairman of the Ternopol regional state administration, Stepan Barna. — Half of my life Taras Shevchenko has spent in prison and in exile, but never regretted chosen a thorny path. as then, defending the right to independence, many of our fellow citizens are in captivity. Among them political prisoners Nadezhda Savchenko, Mykola Karpyuk, Oleg Sentsov, who show the world an example of patriotism and love to native land. Shevchenko commandments shared by all our Heroes are more than 70 thousand soldiers. Among them, nearly 150 prisoners, three of them children — residents of our region. Before us appeared a challenge and I am convinced that together we will be able to make a difference not only in Ternopil region and Ukraine as a whole".
