Ukraine and Belarus have agreed on cooperation in the energy sphere
the Minister of energy and coal industry of Ukraine Igor Nasalik discussed with the First Deputy Minister of energy of the Republic of Belarus Leonid Senec a number of issues of cooperation in the energy sector. The meeting took place on 6 June in the framework of the visit the Ukrainian delegation headed by the head Minenergouglya to Minsk. The Ukrainian side supported the proposal of the Belarusian colleagues regarding the resumption of the Ukrainian-Belarusian working group on cooperation in the energy sphere within the framework of the intergovernmental Ukrainian-Belarusian mixed Commission on trade-economic cooperation. One of the important issues discussed during the meeting is to resume the export of electricity from Ukraine to Belarus, which had been suspended since November 2014. According to Igor Nasalik, the resumption of exports will increase the load of power units of Ukrainian NPPs, as well as the share of nuclear generation in the structure of production and to reduce the cost of electricity in Ukraine. In addition, the parties determined that the supply of electricity to conduct the State enterprise of foreign economic activity "Ukrinterenergo". The Minister recalled that the Ministry has developed a draft decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine "On increasing the capacity of export of electric energy" with the aim of creating favorable conditions for export of electricity. Now this order is being agreed in the Executive power, but after its adoption will define the specific terms and volumes of supply of electricity. The parties also discussed the technical feasibility of the transit of Ukrainian electricity via Belarus to Lithuania, to ensure the parallel work of power systems of Ukraine and Belarus, as well as obtaining emergency assistance, if necessary.
