Chernigov celebrates the city and 73-th anniversary of Chernigov liberation from the Nazi invaders
In Chernihiv held the celebrations on the occasion of the city Day and the 73rd anniversary of Chernigov liberation from the Nazi invaders. The celebration started with laying flowers to the communal grave in the square of a name of N. M. Popudrenko. To honor those who died during the war and lay flowers to the monument of gathered veterans of the war, the leaders of the city and region, the military, representatives of local authorities, the public of the city. During the solemn meeting of the Chernihiv city Chairman Vladislav Atroshenko congratulated those present on the Day of the city and the 73rd anniversary of Chernigov liberation from the Nazi invaders. In his speech he said: "the day of the city is in every city a very important day. Chernigov is unique in the history of Ukraine: the land for the first time, the chronicle recorded the call for harmony and unity in their own country. Chernigov princes were the chief fighters for the unity of his then state – Kievan Rus'. The mayor recalled that Chernihiv was one of the most destroyed cities in Europe during the war, especially during the bombing 23-25 August 1941 and suffered badly during the two-year occupation. - I bow my head, as we all do, before the heroism of the veterans that have provided us a peaceful life and revived the city in the postwar period, " said Vladislav Atroshenko. He stressed on the need to perpetuate the memory of the tens of thousands of innocent victims, civilians, children and the elderly, were executed in these years. Given this, he appealed to the deputies of the city Council to support its initiative to lay the necessary amount in the budget for the next 2017 to establish in the city a memorable sign, which owing to certain circumstances is still missing. the city is home to 402 combatants. Speaking of which, Chernihiv mayor called the names of 4 veterans who participated in the liberation of the city Vasil, Barbara M., Kuznetsov, Nikolay Yakovlevich, Shtan'ko Ivan Pavlovich and awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union Irkha Nikolai Stepanovich. Vladislav Atroshenko urged the community to work together to make every effort to provide a decent life for veterans and the development of our city. The mayor wished the veterans and all those present good health, inspiration, success and faith in the future the future of the whole of Ukraine and a beautiful city above the Gum.
