Yuriy Lutsenko: the Fight against "the amber mafia" continues
on Tuesday, 18 April 2017, during a briefing in Rivne region, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko said that one of the priorities for the Prosecutor's office is fighting "amber mafia". We will remind, on April 18, 2016, the Chief military Prosecutor's office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine registered criminal proceedings on the fact of creation and activity in territory of the Rovno area of the criminal organization with the purpose of receipt of illegal benefit for the smooth implementation of the extraction of raw amber. Yuriy Lutsenko said that on 14 February 2017 in the specified criminal proceedings by the Prosecutor announced the completion of pre-trial investigations and open criminal proceedings of 6 suspects and their defenders for acquaintance. The Prosecutor General informed that during the implementation of pre-trial investigation carried out 183 raids, during which identified the cash and the jewels of gold, weapons, amber of various fractions, means for obtaining amber draft accounts and scheme of distribution of funds; conducted more than 200 secret investigative (search) actions. "In addition, the results of the preliminary investigation, criminal charges were brought against 31 persons, of which in relation to 25 individuals the courts handed down convictions that came into legal force," he added. Also Yuriy Lutsenko said that the pre-trial investigation one person voluntarily informed a consequence that participated in the Commission of crimes by criminal organization and has stated its readiness to support the investigation. Person's attorney signed the agreement on recognition of guilt, court conviction. In addition, a number of individuals, an agreement was concluded with the investigation. Yuriy Lutsenko said that among the suspects who are acquainted with the materials of production, - former Deputy Prosecutor of the Rivne region, Sarny, the former head of the local Prosecutor's office of Rivne region, a former head of the Dubrovytsky Department of the local Prosecutor's office Sarny of Rivne region, a former employee of Management on fight against organized crime of the Main Department of MIA of Ukraine in Zhytomyr region, the investigator of the investigative Department of the Main Directorate Nacpac in the Rivne region, which is now dismissed, and the senior operative on especially important issues of Department of counterintelligence of security Service of Ukraine in Rivne region. "Unfortunately, I can't say that the surgery was finally done with "amber mafia". At the moment, according to our operational data, the mafia was dealt a blow, and the operation of its liquidation proceeds", - said Yuri Lutsenko.
