In Chernihiv celebrated the 31st anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy
On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy in Chernihiv city leaders and the region held a meeting with representatives of public organizations of Chernihiv regional organization of all-Ukrainian public organization of disabled "Chernobyl Union of Ukraine", regional branch of the Ukrainian national Fund for the disabled of Chernobyl, citizens affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The event was held in the premises of the regional state administration. The speakers noted that the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is the largest man-made environmental disaster in the history of world civilization, however, one of the most affected in Ukraine is the Dnipropetrovsk oblast. 244 settlements are recognized as contaminated, 22% of the population classified as affected by the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. As the whole city - more than 7,000 victims (displaced persons, evacuated), including: 3337 liquidators of consequences of the accident and nearly 1,400 children. During the event, it was also about what government authorities and local self-government should intensify attention on the appropriate social welfare of the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident. The Deputy of Chernihiv mayor Sergey Fesenko on behalf of Chernihiv mayor and whole community of the city expressed gratitude to the participants of liquidation of consequences of Chernobyl catastrophe for a decent line of their duty, because the price of the dangers of radiation and deadly threat to their lives saving the lives of others. A minute of silence for the leaders of the city and region, participants of liquidation of consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and members of the public paid tribute to the victims during the Chernobyl tragedy. All those present laid flowers to the memorial sign "Heroes of Chernobyl". The Requiem service for the victims was served by the rector of the Church of St. Catherine the great Martyr father Roman. To the Day of the Chernobyl tragedy was awarded with Honorary diplomas of the regional state administration, regional Council, Honorary diplomas of the Chernihiv city Council and the Executive Committee and the Gratitude of the Chernigov city Chairman.
