In the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed a Law prohibiting the manufacture and promotion of the St. George ribbon
President Petro Poroshenko has signed the Law of Ukraine "On amendments to the Code of Ukraine on administrative offences regarding the prohibition of production and promotion of St. George (guards) ribbon" No. 2031 VIII. The law was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on 16 may 2017. During the ceremony of honoring the memory of victims of political repression in the National historical memorial reserve "bykivnya graves" may 21, Poroshenko said he will sign this Law as soon as the document will come from the Ukrainian Parliament. "The law banning St. George ribbons I will sign as soon as he received me in the Verkhovna Rada. Why? Because it is not the symbolism of the Second world war, this symbolism – a symbol of aggression against Ukraine 2014-2017. Therefore, hung these ribbons militants kill our soldiers every day and night," - said Petro Poroshenko. The President added that "Russia's policy towards Ukraine, she put the tape outside the law." The law supplements the Code of Ukraine on administrative offences with a new article establishing liability for the production and promotion of St. George ribbons. According to the document public use, display or wearing a St. George ribbon or its image shall entail imposing a fine from 50 to 150 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens with confiscation of the St. George ribbon or items containing the images. The same actions made repeatedly within year after imposing of an administrative penalty, as well as the manufacture or distribution of St. George ribbons or her image shall entail imposing a fine from 150 to 300 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens or administrative arrest for up to 15 days and confiscation of the St. George ribbon or objects containing images in all cases.
