Zhytomyr region: meeting the leadership of the region with Afghans and members of ATU
10 February, on the occasion of the Day of honoring participants of battle actions on territory of other States, in the small hall of the regional state administration met the head of Zhytomyr regional state administration Serhiy Mashkovsky, head of the Zhytomyr oblast Rada Angelica Labunska with soldiers-Afghans and participants of hostilities in the East of Ukraine. In his opening remarks Sergey Mashkovsky noted that on this day we pay tribute to the officers and soldiers who with honor and dignity fulfilled their duty in the mountains of Afghanistan, the deserts of Iraq, in the settlement of the conflict in Yugoslavia and in other "hot spots" of the world. Also on this day we remember and appreciate the heroes who have died defending our country. "5,300 soldiers and officers of Zhytomyr region passed through the trials of the Afghan war, 3280 Ukrainians died then. 133 of them – the residents of Zhytomyr city. Now in the ATO area 3 is fighting thousands of "Afghans" and 126 soldiers, unfortunately, were killed," said the Chairman of regional state administration. The head of the region thanked the soldiers for their contribution to the protection and development of our country: "Veterans of Afghanistan have been at the forefront of the struggle for truth and during the Orange revolution and during the revolution of dignity, and now guard the independence of the state in the war in the East".
