Glorious soldier of the UPA celebrated its 90th anniversary in Chernivtsi Philharmonic
September 13, veteran of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, the Chairman of the regional brotherhood of the OUN-UPA Bukovina, a well-known teacher, artist – founder and many years leader of the choir “the Hubbub of Bukovina” Svyatoslav Melnychuk 90 years old. On this occasion, in the regional Philharmonic held a recital in which Chernivtsi mayor Alex Kaspruk presented the jubilee medal "For the glory of Chernivtsi." In addition, Svyatoslav Melnychuk welcomed the clergy of the region, famous artists and, in fact, the chorus “the Hubbub of Bukovina”. Reference Svyatoslav Melnychuk was born on 13 September 1926 in the South of Romania. His father took part in the national liberation struggle in the ranks of the UNR army of 1918-1921, and therefore, when it was the Soviet authorities decided not to risk the safety of the family and went with her to Germany in the Wake of the Soviet-German agreements on the return of the Germans home. In wartime, the Metropolitan Ohienko took the family priest into Holm. It was there, seeing burned to the ground by the Polish home Army, Ukrainian village, Svjatoslav decided to go to the UPA. Already with 17 years of war with the Nazis and the Army of Chelm, and subsequently – with the NKVD. 1945, after the RAID, the wounded Svyatoslav captured and arrested. Was on the verge of execution but his ten and a half years, he was exiled to Vorkuta. In 1955, was released from prison. Returning home, he again received his secondary education, then – professional. Taught high school music and singing. After graduating, he taught at the school of cultural enlightenment. The founder of the choir “the Hubbub of Bukovina”, co-founder of companies “Prosvita im. Taras Shevchenko”, the founder and President of the brotherhood of OUN-UPA.
