Patriarch Joseph the Blind will remain in the memory of posterity as a patriot of Ukraine,Ukrainian defender of the Church,a prisoner for Christ's sake

Dear organizers, participants and guests of the anniversary celebration! 125 years separate us from the birth of the outstanding son of the Ukrainian people, a heroic fighter for the national Patriarchal system of the Church, the heroic Confessor of the faith, a profound theologian and great Shepherd of the Primate of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, his Beatitude Josyf Slipyj. The bright memory of Patriarch Joseph was a witness to the events nearly a turbulent twentieth century. Through the tragic stages of our history, revolutions, wars, millions of human tragedy and personal loss he carried the fire of his indomitable spirit, the fever of the heart of a Ukrainian patriot and protector of the Ukrainian Church. In the memory of posterity, he will remain not only as cardinal, Archbishop and Patriarch, and, above all, as a Martyr of faith and of conscience, a prisoner for Christ's sake, as an exceptional personality, known in the history of the Church, left a bright trace in the world's theological and intellectual tradition. I am sure that the heirs of the Great Hierarchs, whose birthday we celebrate solemnly, followed by the heroic features of his indomitable character, and a fervent love of the Motherland, the people and the Church, take for example his life as a perennial feat accomplished despite prison, exile, camps and bullying. I wish all the organizers, guests and participants of the celebration of the anniversary of the glorious kindness and harmony on the way, commanded the Patriarch Joseph Blind — to pray, to work and to fight for the preservation and development of our home State and the triumph of Christian faith! The Minister of culture of Ukraine Yevhen Nischuk This was reported in the Ternopil regional state administration
