The head of the Department indicated that the purpose of the activities of the cardiac surgery center, offices of the departments of cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology is to provide tertiary care to the population with cardiovascular disease in the following areas: surgical treatment of acquired heart defects; congenital heart defects; coronary heart disease including acute myocardial infarction; surgery of the great vessels; surgical treatment of myocardial pathology; surgical treatment of heart rhythm disorders. Deputy Chairman of regional state administration Yurii Yurik thanked the representatives of Sweden for their support and assistance. "It is very important that the regional center will help save the lives of about 700 area residents a year who have died on the way to the place of diagnosis.
