This is due not only to technical requirements, the need to protect equipment from harmful atmospheric influences, technical networks, the need for a qualitative grounding of equipment, and, primarily with the fact that in the study can be used methods of "stimulation" seizures: rhythmic photic stimulation, hyperventilation (rapid deep breathing), sleep deprivation (lack of sleep planned before the study) Such methods are used primarily in patients with infrequent seizures for the emergence of the study of video-EEG epileptiform activity and attacks. Video-EEG montoring – it is long (at least hours) of continuous, simultaneous recording of EEG, video and audio signals. Many convulsive States are not epileptic, are caused by psychogenic factors, but it is very reminiscent of the epileptic seizures. In such cases, video-EEG allows us to see not epileptic nature of the seizures, and not to assign or cancel antiepileptic drugs that like all drugs, have many side effects. Timely diagnosis of epileptic nature of attacks allows you to start an early therapy. Video EEG is also used to assess the effectiveness of treatment. Thus, video-EEG monitoring is prescribed for diagnostic purposes to determine: – the nature of the seizure is epileptic or not epileptic, which disease to treat; – type of seizure - generalized, focal, other; – forms of epilepsy; – localization of epileptic focus; – EEG monitoring - to determine the prognosis for life and health of patients in WRT in a long coma; With the medical purpose of video EEG monitoring allows you to: – to determine the probability of seizures recurrence after a first epileptic seizure; – to assess changes in EEG - to start or not to start medication; – to spend choice of anti-epileptic drug; – to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment, the probability of recurrence of seizures in remission with effective drug therapy; – to localize the spread of epileptic focus with therapeutically resistant epilepsy for surgical treatment.
