Stepan Barna: the region must become a true center of the historical heritage of Patriarch Josyf Slipyj

This year, the region, and all Ukraine, according to the Decree of the Verkhovna Rada celebrates 125 years since the birth of Patriarch Josyf Slipyj, head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in the years 1944-1984. So solemn Academy on the occasion of this memorable anniversary was held in Ternopil Palace of culture "Berezil". Participation in the celebrations was attended by the Chairman of the Ternopil regional state administration Stepan Barna. The head of the region noted that the Patriarch Joseph the Blind is a unique historical figure, the symbol unbowed Ukrainian Church and the Ukrainian people. "A native of the village of Terebovlya district Zazdrist Joseph Blind after 18 years of concentration camps of Mordovia and Siberia has demonstrated its ability to unite many generations of Ukrainians abroad around independent Ukraine and around the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. That is why we must do everything to Josyf Slipyj was known in every school and museums of Ternopil. And to do everything to the spiritual center of Envy was the subject of not just visiting his Museum, and place of the Ukrainian and world pilgrimage. The region must become a true center of the historical heritage of Joseph the Blind," said Stepan Barna. Solemn Academy is the largest art event that was planned for this year in Ternopil. The event was also made by the honoured academic Capella of Ukraine "trembita". "This team is one of the oldest choir collectives of Ukraine and is almost the same age as Joseph the Blind. To the solemn Academy prepared the original program with the use of modern works of Ukrainian composers, who write on spiritual themes. The evening was accompanied by the debut work "the Testament of Patriarch Josyf Slipyj," which was written especially for this event. We are very grateful to co – organizers of the Ternopil regional state administration, Ternopil city Council and Ternopil regional Museum, who contributed to this solemnity, and we once again were able to honor the bright memory of Patriarch Joseph Blind," said Vitaly Kozak – father-doctor, sincel on strategy of development of Ternopil-Zboriv Archeparchy of UGCC.
