Former head of the regional division of the State tax service in Rivne oblast was sentenced to 5 years in prison for taking bribes
he disagreed with the verdict of the court of first instance, the Prosecutor's office of Rivne region made the appeal in connection with softness of the appointed ex-the head of one of regional divisions of the State tax service of Ukraine in Rivne region for committing a corruption crime punishment, namely probation. By results of consideration of the appeal, and the principled position of the Prosecutor at the hearing on 17 January 2017 by the court of appeal of Rivne region overturned the verdict of the court of first instance and adopted a new, according to which former head of the district units of the state tax service of Ukraine in Rivne region found guilty of bribery, combined with extortion and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. The official also denied the right to hold the positions endowed with power and the organizational and administrative functions for a period of 3 years, a special rank and confiscated all the property. The convict was taken into custody immediately after the verdict. According to the actual circumstances of the case, the official demanded and received in 2013 a bribe of 25 thousand UAH from the businessman for not charging to the payment of tax liabilities and preparation of certificates on absence of violations of tax laws. Reference: The verdict of the court of first instance in July of 2016, the person had been sentenced to imprisonment with probation of 3 years. With this decision, the Prosecutor's office of Rivne region did not agree, and therefore appealed against sentence in connection with softness of the appointed punishment. In support of their claims, the Prosecutor indicated that the court insufficiently taken into account the increased public danger and corruption actions of the defendant that discreditied state law enforcement agencies.
