Chernigov is open for cooperation with cities in the neighboring Belarus
Belarus is an important economic partner for the city and Chernihiv region. The volume of foreign investments of the Republic of Belarus in Chernigov at the end of last year amounted to 24.7 thousand US$. But in General, the trade turnover between Belarus and Ukraine at the end of 2017 amounted to more than 4.5 billion USD, which is about 20% more than in 2016. This was discussed on 3 April, during a meeting of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sokol with the Deputy Chairman of Chernihiv oblast state administration Natalia Romanova, head of Chernihiv regional Council Igor Vdovenko and Chernihiv city Chairman Vladislav Atroshenko. Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus Igor Sokol was in Chernigov on a working visit. During the meeting the sides discussed ways of intensifying and promising directions of development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Chernihiv region and neighboring cities of Belarus. - Ukraine is the second largest market for Belarus, and Belarus is ranked fourth for Ukraine, moving from the fifth, - said Igor Sokol. According to him, three meetings of the Presidents of Ukraine and Belarus last year has shown practical interest in the strategic partnership between the two countries and identified challenges to return to the trade between countries in the level of 2012, that is 8 billion $. He mentioned that from 10 to 14 April in Kyiv will take place the national exhibition "Made in Belarus", which will be presented to all sectors of the economy of the Republic of Belarus. To participate in this exhibition already registered 53 of Belarusian companies – the flagships of the Belarusian industry. May 25 this year, will host the XV anniversary of the Gomel economic forum which will be held the XIX international exhibition-fair "Spring in Gomel". And this autumn, Gomel will host the First Belarusian-Ukrainian forum of the regions. Such events provide the opportunity to search for potential partners and sign mutually beneficial contracts. However, despite the positive dynamics of cooperation, the exchange of goods leaves much to be desired. It was also noted that cooperation between regions gives the opportunity to local authorities soon to solve local problems and develop effective relationships between neighboring cities. - Chernigov is open to strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation with neighboring cities of Belarus - said Vladislav Atroshenko. The mayor called a number of enterprises of Chernigov, which carry export goods to Belarus. Among them: LLC "Promservis", LLC "PET technologies Ukraine", "Ukrainian cardan", LTD "Novotel", PJSC "Chernihiv mechanical plant", LLC "Sporttekhnika". In addition, successfully developing cultural and educational cooperation program and mutually beneficial relations between citizens. So, last year, through the border points of Chernigov 891 thousand citizens of the Republic of Belarus visited Chernigov, and on the territory of Belarus entered 887 thousand Ukrainians. Concluding the official meeting, Natalia Romanova stressed that opportunities for cooperation between our countries is limitless, because we share a common history and common traditions.
